About Me

Felicity Chapman

Felicity Chapman,
Gerontological Psychotherapist

Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

In 1993 Felicity completed an Associate Diploma of Counselling and, four years later, a Bachelor of Social Work (honours). Initially she worked in the disability sector and then with women in Adelaide’s northern suburbs who had experienced childhood abuse and trauma. After becoming a mother she became interested in perinatal work. Then her interests expanded to work with older adults when, in 2009, a new program became available for residents of care homes. It was here that her passion for psychotherapeutic work with older adults gathered momentum.

In 2018 Felicity published ‘Counselling and Psychotherapy with Older People in Care: A Support Guide’ through Jessica Kingsley Publishers which was reviewed in the Australasian Journal on Ageing. Felicity discovered the joys of writing later in life and has dabbled as a novelist. She has published several articles on work with older adults and has delivered numerous presentations, university lectures and training workshops. For a time she also offered home visits to those she feels most passionate about: people with a disability, older adults, carers and new mothers.

Currently Felicity coordinates and works in the ‘Your Story’ program which is an in-reach counselling service to residents of care homes across the Adelaide Hills region. She enjoys being a part of the Summit Health CONNECTcare team and balancing a small private practice on the weekend offering supervision. In her spare time she relishes getting her nose into a good book, spending time with loved ones, going to the gym and immersing herself in the Great Outdoors.
